About Arrow Symbols

Arrows do a job that ornaments cannot: they direct attention. A bio line reading "new video ➜ link in bio" works because the arrow replaces a phrase, and it does it in one character. Sixteen of the eighteen here are ordinary text characters that take the colour of the words around them, which is what lets them sit inside a sentence rather than beside it.

Choosing a Weight

➜ ➔ ➙ ➛ ➝ ➞ ➟ ➠ come from the Dingbats block and are drawn heavy — they hold their own next to bold text and read clearly at small sizes. ➜ is the most neutral of them and the usual default.

⇒ ⇢ ⇾ ⟶ ⤳ ⇀ are lighter, drawn from the mathematical arrow ranges. ⇒ is a double-stroke implication arrow, ⇢ is dashed, ⟶ is a long thin arrow, and ⇀ is a half-arrow with only the upper barb. These sit better inside running text, where a Dingbats arrow can look like it is shouting.

and are the two that turn corners. ↳ points down and then right, which makes it the natural choice for an indented sub-line — a reply, a note, or a second-level item in a bio list.

Two May Show Up in Colour

and are classified in Unicode as pictographic, which means some platforms will render them as colour emoji rather than as text glyphs.

This catches people out: a bio built with matching black arrows can show one blue arrow among them on a different device. If you need the whole row to render identically everywhere, ➜ and ↳ are the safer substitutes for those two.

Direction Is Fixed

There is no way to flip an arrow by styling it — a right-pointing character always points right, and getting a left-pointing arrow means using a different character. This collection is right-and-down oriented, which suits the reading direction of a bio line.

For building a frame rather than pointing within one, the box drawing characters include connectors designed to interlock, and the decorative symbols cover matched pairs. If you want the full set laid out with the keyboard shortcuts for each one, the guide to arrow symbols to copy and paste goes through them in order.

➡ and ↪ are classified as pictographic characters, so some platforms draw them as colour emoji. The other sixteen arrows here are plain text and take the colour of surrounding text on every platform.

One of the lighter mathematical arrows — ⟶, ⇢, or ⇒. The Dingbats arrows like ➜ and ➠ are drawn much heavier and tend to dominate the words around them at body-text size.

Not by styling it. Direction is part of the character itself, so a left-pointing arrow is a different code point. The arrows in this collection point right and down.
